Florida Benthic is equipped to support your permitting needs for a variety of projects,
including seawall and dock construction, marina development, dredging, and coastal
construction. Our team of scientists specializes in designing and implementing projects
tailored to diverse ecosystems, such as submerged aquatic vegetation (seagrasses,
and macroalgae) and hard-bottom resources including stony corals, octocorals,
sponges, and oysters. We provide surveys to ensure compliance with the regulations
established by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and other permitting
standards.
Coastal construction projects often take place in inland waterways, impacting urbanized coral ecosystems. These "urban corals" live in conditions marked by elevated turbidity, fluctuating salinity levels, and pollution, leading to the development of resilient, stress-adapted coral colonies. These urban coral populations are an important asset, contributing significantly to the overall reef ecosystem through their strong genetic makeup. Ensuring the viability of these colonies throughout projects is essential.
Florida Benthic is committed to preserving coral communities. With a collective 40 years of experience, our team has been actively involved in reef rehabilitation and coral relocation, successfully transplanting thousands of corals throughout Florida and the Caribbean.
